Abstract

The Pantanal is characterized as one of the largest wetland systems in the world, the low slope of the environment coupled with mesorelevo hinders the flow of water resulting in emergence of environments characteristic associated with the vegetation mosaic. The objectives are to characterize this level of flooding from the height of water surface, analyze the occurrence of plant species in the woody vegetation types in physiognomies of Cambará and Cordilheira along this gradient and to identify the phytosociological parameters of the surveyed species composition of vegetation types in question. The work was accomplished toward the plain to a positive relief, limiting themselves 24 points quadrants along 480 meters distributed in two areas: forest Cambará and forest Cordilheira. The results obtained in relation to water depth indicate that it is influenced by topography, the diversity of individuals in the flooded area was less than in the non-flooded and the result was opposite to the richness of the diversity found, indicating that the stress of the flood appears to have a limiting role on the vegetation, selecting the few species adapted to these conditions.
