Abstract

Herbivory may be defined as the consumption of parts vegetative and reproductive of the plants for animals. The objective of this work was to evaluate if there is difference of laminar area loss between young and adult leaves in Croton sp. The experiment was accomplished in REBIO of Duas Bocas, by collecing 64 leaves being 32 young and 32 adult. Total and damage by loss leaf areas were measured using centimetric scale calibrated images using the software ImageTool. There as no significant difference between young and adult leaves, concerning the t-test (p>0,05), however the area loss differed significantly between young and adult leaves, concerning the Mann-Whitney’s test (p <0,05). Total and damage areas had a low correlation (r = 0.0089) and laminar loss was not limited by leaf size.
