Abstract

The life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) consists in associating inventory data of life cycle to specific categories of impact, through different methods of assessment. Thus, the life cycle assessment (LCA) provides a comprehensive view of the environmental impacts generated by a certain process, however, the impact assessment methods have differences on their categories of environmental impacts. Based on a literature review, we investigated the impact of variety of allocation methods available, with different approaches, in order to facilitate the understanding of the methods and the choice for work in LCA. The results show that several methods have been described in the literature, showing some limitations on use of water, water scarcity and harmful substances to human health, which that must be overcome by the methods of LCIA.
