Diatomáceas bioindicadoras da qualidade dos ambientes aquáticos

Resumen

A diversidade biológica presente nos ecos-sistemas aquáticos está sujeita a diferentes pressões antrópicas como a poluição por contaminantes re-sultante da agricultura, processos industriais ou efluentes residenciais. Assim, estudos de monito-ramento ambiental dos ecossistemas aquáticos uti-lizando organismos biológicos se mostram úteis e eficientes. As algas diatomáceas são bioindicadoras da qualidade da água, portanto nesse trabalho revi-samos a literatura sobre o uso de diatomáceas como bioindicadoras, ressaltando as principais caracterís-ticas do grupo e os ambientes que algumas espécies toleram. A resposta das espécies de diatomáceas à eutrofização ou poluição é utilizada em estudos de monitoramento da qualidade da água, indicando di-ferentes níveis de trofia dos ecossistemas.
