Abstract

The age of 17 free-living Cerdocyon thous (crab-eating fox), killed by car crash on the highway ES-060, was estimated by measuring the diameter of the root canal in radiographic examination. The Concessionaire Rodosol SA monitors the impact of roads on wildlife, collect and record the animals found dead, and then the bodies are frozen and sent to the Veterinary Pathology Laboratory of the UVV. The animals were subjected to necroscopic examination, biometrics, and inspection of the oral cavity with emphasis on evaluation of dental abrasion. The sincraniuns were examined in the completion of dental chips (odontograms) veterinary. Subsequently, the arches of the lower canine teeth were radiographed, with dental equipment, using the technique of parallelism and standardized measures. Was obtained a mean value of 1.48 mm in diameter in the radiographic image of the lower root canal canine tooth of the right side and 1.38 mm for the left, ranging from 0.51 to 2.99 and 0.52 to 2 , 91 respectively, for a total of 17 sincranius. The total body length varied between 90 cm and 105 cm. The data can classify the animals as 15 adults and 2 young adults, are not identified pups, indicating that mortality in this case is associated with this age group, and probably does not occur as a random event.
