Abstract

Skin disorders affect the structure and conformation of cells belonging to epidermis, as well as to dermis. Epidermis is the outmost skin sheet, comprising keratocytes at 95%, and the remaining 5% includes melanocytes, Langherans’and Merkel’s cells. It is divided into four main sheets, according to the differentiation degree of keratinocytes. The basal sheet is composed of an only sheet of keratocytes that proliferate and produce derivate cells, ending the corneous stracta formation. The majority of skin diseases are, in fact, chronic and inflammatory proliferative disorders, in which genetic and environmental factors are causative factors for their establishment. Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that is the most prevalent immunomediated disease in adult human beings. The plant that have been already reported for the psoriasis treatment were: Aloe vera L. (Liliaceae), Saccharum officinarum L. (Poaceae), Verbena officinalis L. ( Verbenaceae), Acanthus mollis L. (Acanthaceae), Ecballium elaterium Rich. (Cucurbitaceae), Parietaria officinalis L. (Urticaceae), Verbascum sinuatum L. (Scrophulariaceae), Agave americana L. (Agavaceae), Inula viscosa Ait. (Asteraceae), Artemisia arborescens L.(Asteraceae), Rhagadiolus stellatus DC (Asteraceae), Curcuma longa L. (Zingiberaceae), Baphicacanthus cusia (Nees) Bremenk. (Acanthaceae), Polygonum tinctorium Aiton (Polygonaceae), Isatis indigotica Fortune (Brassicaceae), Indigofera tinctoria L. (Fabaceae), e Strobilanthes formosanus S.Moore (Acanthaceae).
