Abstract

The objective of this study is to characterize mature seed testa microsculpturing of Herpetacanthus chalarostachyus. Mature seeds were collected from plants under cultivation; seeds were examined under scanning electron microscope (SEM). Seeds are discoid and suborbicular or slightly biconvex, the margin is slightly compressed at the edge, the base is asymmetrical in the micropyle area, most of them have rounded apex. Surface shows protrusions with irregular reticules. The taxonomic significance of seed coat in Herpetacanthus is in need of study of more species.
